2018: AAAS Force for Science Toolkit: Leveraging Networking & Collaboration to Promote Diversity

This workshop addresses the building of mutually beneficial relationships between and within organizations to promote diversity across a range of identities. Participants will learn from a set of case studies and engage in discussion with leaders of LGBTQ+ STEM advocacy groups about how they have found common ground with AAAS and other professional societies and diversity organizations. The session begins with a presentation of the history of the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP), followed by a review of the establishment of the Out in STEM (oSTEM) campus network and the development of the ASEE Virtual Community of Practice for LGBTQ Inclusion. Audience members learn how to become involved in these groups or work with others to provide education and engage in networking to increase membership and peer-to-peer understanding.
